Bring Your Child to Work Day and READ to a DOG!

IMG_6228To celebrate Bring Your Child to Work Day, the Library invited the ever-popular Berks Therapy Dogs to the Library on Thursday, April 25th, 2013.

Children reading storybooks to dogs—what could be cuter? But every day we’re learning there’s more than just cuteness when this happens.  Dogs are now being used in many school and library settings to help motivate youngsters to read. The use of trained therapy dogs in reading programs can result in children who feel comfortable reading out loud, read more often, attempt more difficult books, and actually look forward to reading. As they improve their literacy skills, they’re not just learning how to read, they’re learning to love to read!
